Switching IT Providers: What a Free 14-Day Migration Actually Looks Like

The number one reason businesses stay with an IT provider they’ve stopped trusting isn’t loyalty — it’s fear of the switch. Fear of downtime, fear of the old provider going hostile, fear of things nobody documented. Fair fears. Here’s exactly how we defuse them, because the first 14 days of every migration we run are free.

Why switching feels risky (and why it mostly isn’t)

Your systems already work — imperfectly, but they work. A migration feels like open-heart surgery on a running business. In practice, a properly run MSP transition changes almost nothing on day one: the systems stay, the software stays, your team’s logins stay. What changes is who’s watching, documenting and answering the phone.

The day-by-day

Days 1–3: Discovery and documentation

We inventory everything — servers, endpoints, licences, domains, DNS, backup status, network gear, vendor contacts — and write it down properly. Most businesses see the first complete map of their own IT they’ve ever had. You keep this document whether or not you proceed.

Days 4–7: Quiet takeover of monitoring

Our 24/7 monitoring goes in alongside whatever exists. Nothing is removed yet; we simply start seeing what your systems actually do — including the problems nobody mentioned.

Days 8–11: Backups proven, risks flagged

We verify (or establish) backups and actually test-restore them. You get a written risk list ranked by consequence — not a sales document, an engineering one.

Days 12–14: Cutover and handover

Help desk numbers switch to us, credentials rotate, the outgoing provider hands over formally — we run that conversation so you don’t have to. Any change with downtime risk is scheduled outside business hours. Then it’s just… running.

What about a hostile old provider?

Rare, but it happens. This is why documentation comes first: by day 3 we hold enough of a map that even a stonewalling incumbent can’t hold your business hostage. Access recovery, domain control and licence transfers all have standard playbooks. You stay out of the crossfire.

What it costs

The migration itself: nothing for the first 14 days. Ongoing support: from $89 per seat per month, published pricing, no lock-in beyond 30 days. If we’re not measurably better, leaving us is as easy as joining — that’s deliberate.

Frequently asked questions

Will our staff notice the switch?

Ideally only twice: when we introduce ourselves, and when they realise tickets get answered in minutes — our median response is 12 minutes.

Do we need to tell our current provider before you start?

No. Discovery and parallel monitoring are non-disruptive. We recommend notifying them at the point of formal handover, and we handle that conversation with you.

What if we’re mid-contract?

We’ll review the exit terms with you. Sometimes running out a contract while we quietly document is the cheapest path; sometimes leaving early still pays for itself in recovered downtime.
